By using this method, a motor can reach 150 percent of its rated torque while only using 50 percent of its rated current.  When starting a motor with a switch, and a variable frequency drive isn't used for the control of electrical input, the motor will immediately draw full voltage at about 300 percent of its rated current while producing less than 50 percent of its rated torque.  This causes equipment to run inefficiently and can also result in damage to machinery by the unbalanced inrush of power.

and frequencies, and allows for the operation of motors effectively meeting their load requirements.  This is definitely the most optimal technology for the operation of electrical motors.

Just as important, when stopping motors, a variable frequency drive slowly ramps down the frequency and voltage of current at a controlled rate.  When the frequency and voltage levels reach zero, the motor is turned off allowing the equipment to shut down without the sudden breakage of electrical power.  This updated technology saves stress on equipment, and production runs much smoother compared to equipment operating on an “on/off” control switch method.
